Default 48 Ford gas fitting going into gas tank

I'm replacing fitting on side of gas tank. How far should the line go through fitting into tank, thanks

The configuration is different for 46-48 compared to the 40.

The fuel line doesn't extend into the tank through the fitting, if I understand the question.

If you are replacing the pickup tube inside the tank, then the other thread is your answer.

I was looking at my tank the other day and it looks like there is a line that runs from the outlet on the side to about half in.

It would seem logical that the "out flow" gas tank line fitting would have to have the gas line extend inside the tank long enough so that it bends downward but does not touch the bottom of the tank. Otherwise, you won't be able to use up the gas in your tank.

If I understand correctly, you are replacing the fitting at the end of the fuel line. Correct? If so, the line needs to extend no more than 1/2" beyond the end of the fitting.
