Default Do wide 5 rims hold air for tubeless tires

Do the rivets need attention before installing tubeless tires?

When I bought my '39 p/u with wide fives the PO installed tubeless radials. Don't know if he did anything to the rivets or not. But the rear tires hold air just fine but the front tires loose about 5 psi every week or two. It might be due to the turning stress on the front wheels but not sure.

A wise man always told me that there is no such thing as a tire in need of air....only one in need of repair! Sorry I don't have any information related to your wide 5 rims.

Clean the bead surfaces and coat with sealer. No tubes. No problems.

It would certainly depend on the condition of your rims. Some might not have a problem, some will. I went tubeless on some old wheels a couple years ago, and after sandblasting I heavily brushed epoxy primer on to the rivit area, then sprayed the entire wheel in epoxy, then dabbed jb weld on to the rivits. Overkill ? well, they dont leak !

Bead blast, then JB WELD dabbed on each rivet is great insurance. They normally don't leak anyway.

Might work. Give it a try! Some wrap duct tape for tubes to lessen the abrasive nature to the tubes. Probably can't hurt if running tubeless. Or maybe some flexspray to seal.

Suppose it matters how good the "rims" are and what you do. They where not designed to be tubeless.

A number of years ago I bought a set of Coker www 600x16 radial tires with tubes. The valve stems on the tubes were too thin in diameter and would move around in the hole in the rim, causing them to rub, rupture and go flat. I finally decided to try running the radials on the stock rims without tubes and they have held up without any problems.

I used Gorilla tape for rim tape on my wide fives.
