Re: Banjo rear end! ring and pinion
what a job to work on a Banjo rear. in my model A I pulled the threads off one axle and I had to replace the axles. I bought another rear that had 378s in it so I changed the ring and pinion that was a job changing pinions. after I got every thing apart I saw why you need to change everything. I have about 20 hrs in this thing, and I hope it works. I do not wont to do the job over again it is not fun. I would rather pull the motor out of my pickup then do this job. i will report back after it car is on the road

Re: Banjo rear end! ring and pinion
Even if you had the same gear ratios but different ring & pinion(not matched sets) I believe they would be rather noisy . Tried that once on a 53 dodge truck,it didn't work too good.

Re: Banjo rear end! ring and pinion
Brendan, take your time. Make sure all bearings and races are in good condition. You will more than likely need to replace all three lip seals. Get carrier bearing preloaded set without pinion gear in center banjo housing. Set the pinion bearings to the correct drag. Get the R&P gear backlash set correctly. It just takes time and patience to get the job done correctly.

Re: Banjo rear end! ring and pinion
BOY did I find out ! TAKE YOUR TIME! I had the rear end all in place and bolted in the A. there was back and fourth movement in the left axle. I could see that the carrier was not moving, the axle was moving about a 1/8 inch and the outer side was moving about 20 thounends. I did not check that before I put the rear back together. so out comes the rear and back apart. I took the carrier apart and took the axels and put them in the carrier that they where in since new, and no movement so I took 1 step forward and 3 steps back. I wasted 11 hrs yesterday but sure learned a lot
