Default Hubley models?

Came back from an outing with the wife today, with a Hubley model#4850.
I recall seeing these mentioned before, but know nothing about them. This one is still in a sealed box. Are they sought after? What are they worth. This is the roadster model. I have not yet broke the seal on the box, should I? If valuable, I would like to sell it to someone who really wants it.

There were seven in the series; roadster, town sedan, coupe, station wagon, roadster pickup, victoria and fordor phaeton. As far as I know those were the ones produced. I have one of each.

I had one of the town sedans in the early-60s - never finished it. I'd say they are beyond the skill of most kids. They have both metal and plastic parts that don't fit real well. They're held together with screws, some of which are pretty obvious. Plastic kits are easier to build and more detailed/authentic. All that said, they have some collectible value - yours probably more so since it's a roadster and in a sealed box (DON'T break the seal).

There were several non-Fords as well.

To my knowledge the Hubleys are not being reproduced. They original Hubley molds were bought out by "JE Scale Models", a division of AMT/Ertl in the late 1980s.

They also made Model T's, in addition to the Chevrolets, Packards & Deusenbergs shown on the website.

I have a couple dozen in my collection both built & unbuilt. With some searching you can find the kits for under $20 and built cars for around $10-15 at swap meets, flea markets and garage sales.

After Hubley they were made by Gabriel. Here is a link to ebay Russ.
I had about 30 different kits at one time.

I was asked to build one, and when i opened it, (Phaeton) There were two left sides of the body, and no right side.
I checked on the model sites, only to be told Hubbly were finished.
Shame i didnt find out Gabriel were remaking them.
The quality was really bad anyway.

If it is still in a factory sealed box and you want to sell it don't open it. An original in a factory sealed box is worth a lot more than a brand new one in an open box to a collector.

My wife and I have set up ourselves with a Hubley car each plus some spares for parts. You can buy them on EBay from $10 on up to $150 or more. The sealed boxes are the ones that sometime bring the $150. So if you want to sell it, best to not open it.

We purchased our cars because our Model A club has Hubley races once a year. Also the MAFCA regional meeting (going to be in Boise this month) also has Hubley races. So we plan to attend and race our cars. The MAFCA web site has the rules for Hubley races and info on the cars.

Just another thing to get more out of your Model A hobby.

I have several each of the Model A's. I also have done a little kitbashing and created a 31 slant fordor. Currently working on a huckster, from the station wagon model. Then I am gonna attempt to do a town car. Find it hard to believe that the factory plastic wrap survived all these years. Shoot me a PM with a price if you want to sell it.
