Dash Rail Nuts - 29 Coupe
What was the size and finish of the nuts used to hold the dash rail in place. I assume (?) they were the square nuts but uncertain about size/finish.
Thank you - Hunter |

Please correct me if I am wrong. Not sure of the finish but may be Black Oxide or Raven finish. Cad Plate Sorry for the guessing but let's see just how far my brain is. Don't forget the rubber insulation washer between the dash rail and the front belt rail assembly...lock washers...can not remember. Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 11-29-2011 at 10:11 PM. |

Re: Dash Rail Nuts - 29 Coupe
I think last time I put on a dash, I used hex nuts with the attached lock washer (don't know what the true name for these are) because I counld not get those d$#@ lock washers to stay on the bolts until I got the nuts on. I also think when I purchased replacement bolts and nuts from a vendor, I also received the same kind of nuts I used. My rig is a driver so does not matter if they are correct. But Pluck may be correct for the correct type of nuts.

Re: Dash Rail Nuts - 29 Coupe
My 29 has square nuts holding the dash rail on and the rail has never been off. 1/2 in. I think, can't tell for sure what bolt thread though.

The type of original nuts which held the dash rail in place on my September 1929 Standard Coupe is the following size: 1/2--5/16 inch thick hex nut. What is your size? Pluck |

To the best of my knowledge...but have never seen the nuts in the Parts Price List's to tell for sure NOR looked them up at the Ford Archives. I thought it might have mentioned them in the RG's but can not find the spot if they are even mentioned. Pluck |

Re: Dash Rail Nuts - 29 Coupe
I'm pretty confident it was A-21663 which was raven finish. A-21668 was cad plated and the same dimensions until approximately early '29 when the hex size was reduced to 7/16" and at some point also changed to raven finish. It's worth noting that logically cad plating would have survived INSIDE the body in at least a small percentage of vehicles but I'm not aware of any such examples.

Re: Dash Rail Nuts - 29 Coupe
Ive just checked the ones on my late '29 [ Oct.] Canadian tudor, & they are hex. with what looks like to me cad. plating. Like Vanspeed, I too thought they were square nuts of which there are 2 of these at r/h end, but these must have been put on at some time. Of course the screws are Robertsons, nickel plated
