Relining Brakes 36
Hi Guys. What is best to reline or replace the shoes, and what type woven etc. Have a guy here who relines though not sure what he uses. Anything else to check or look out for while doing these. They worked okay but have not been touched for 30yrs plus. Bearings are okay but grease catcher thing was full of brown gunk.

Re: Relining Brakes 36
On mechanical brakes I believe woven linings are best. Either one is fine, i.e. reline or replace shoes, If it has sat for 30 years I think I would turn the drums while you are at it to remove any rust or pitting. Drum should be 12" new. That will give you a starting point to know how much has been taken off in the past. Have the shoes arched to fit the drums.
