Default I am confused. Long/short shoe orintation

I just bought a 34 coupe. It has been converted to hydraulic brakes.the shoes on right rear had come unbounded. I ordered a new set for both rear. The old ones had equal length lining on the shoes, the new ones have one long one short. The set up I have has only the 2 11/16 adjustements, no adjuster on the bottom of the shoe. I shearched here and other sites some say long to front others say long on rear. Which is correct? Thanks, Phil

It depends on the type of brakes, are they Bendix or Lockheed type? Bendix brakes are the self-energizing type like most modern drum brakes. Lockheed brakes are fixed. Sounds like you have the Lockheed style and the shoes match the size of the wheel cylinder, large side of cylinder = longer shoe, smaller side of cylinder = shorter shoe. There was just a thread on this same topic a day or two ago.

The Lockheed type of brakes take a totally different procedure to adjust compared to Bendix brakes. You need to get some detailed information of how to go about it!
