Default Found Model T

Hi , I'm new to the T, Barn. I do Model A's and newer Fords. I just found a 1919 Touring car in a barn. I know next to nothing about T's. Not sure I want to get in to this. Don't know if parts are as easy to get as Model A's. and don't have a lot more room in my shop. I understand he wants to sell bad. It belonged to his father in law. If he wanted to sell cheep enough I might think about it. The body seems real solid but ever thing looks old LOL. and dirty and the eng. will turn over with the hand crank. I'm going to try to find out more. I am going to try to put some pictures on here. Bill

Parts are easy to come by and that looks very complete. just drain the fluids and dust it off and have fun. I wouldn't do anything but what is necessary to make it run well and safely.

Doesn't look any worse than mine when I first got it, just remember this, dirt washes off!

Ford built over 4.5 million model A's and over 15 million model T's, parts are easy to find and get, new, NOS and used. There are just as many Tpart vendors as A part vendors.

That is what I was thinking about. Just fix it up to run and drive a little. My Model A is fixed up very nice but I'm to old to get in to going to far. I will try to put a pic of it on. Bill

More than anything else, that T just looks dirty. Just go through it slowly and bring it back to life, and start to enjoy life in the "even slower" lane. The best reccomendation I could give you is, before you started to do anything on the car, make sure that you have a good set of ignition coils, usually the root of all the "car won't start" kind of problems. Either Ron Patterson or Brent Mize will be the guys to go to for that. Half the horsepower of the model A, but twice the fun!

I agree. Hose it off and get it running and just enjoy the patina.

Yes, get it running, fairly safe and enjoy it. The car will only look that way once. Don't restore it - not yet anyway.

Bill Steiner .......................
That looks like a GREAT find. Just clean it, get it safe and get it running. It will get much more attention than a restored (painted) car. It is beautiful !

I agree, just clean it up, change the fluids, etc and put some miles on the old girl!

Unhappy Re: Found Model T

You look at the thrid picture that Bill had posted, that paint actually looks kind of good in that picture. Look above the spare tire, under the top, you can see reflections in the paint. I think everything else is mostly dirt. I think it might be a 1922 instead of a 1919, it has the later metal firewal instead of the wood, but it may have also been replaced at some time and is in fact a 1919.

Hi Cris, It could be. Like I said I know very little about a T. It has an old Tx plate from about 1996 and a Tx Insp sticker that had 1919 as the year model. I always use Tx Antique plates on my Model A. and you don't need insp sticker. I'm trying to get more info on it. Bill

I had A'a for several years and one day found a 14 in all taken apart. Bought it and rebuilt it for driving and had a ball. the T's tour more then all the other clubs put together and more fun.My A's now just sit there now. I also have V-8 Fords and love them but T's are special and enjoy driving them and the people in the T's are special also.I will always have a T in my shed.

Hi Ora, It does have a starter. I'm still trying to get more info. In a book I have it it lists a starter on closed car's and a starter was opt. on open car's , But I have no idea. Bill

The electric "option" was introduced in 1919. No car before 1919 would have had an electric starter. All cars after 1919 had the places to mount a starter and generator, but not everyone paid the extra money to get them. In place of the starter and generator were three block-off plates, two for the starter and one for the generator, putting on the extra equipment later was an easy deal. In the one photo of the engine you can see the generator (missing it's cutout cover), so odds are this has the starter as well. I will stick with my gut and say this is a 1921 or 1922, the only real difference between those years and a 1919, about 2 or 2 and a half years.
