Default My latest project, warning it's a rod

I am a restorer at heart, my original Model A is in the avatar, but always wanted a 60/s style rod, so here it is.

Just awaiting a procrastinating engineer to get it regoed now.

Has all been passed, just need the paperwork.

NO MODEL A original part was harmed in this rod...(not by me anyway).

I bought the chassis off a hot rodder already boxed and stepped.

Body is all steel at the front.. bonnet/cowl/doors/splash aprons, running boards with glass rear section/lid and fenders.

Commodore V6 (almost same as your buick 3800), T5 manual box, 5 link rear end, HR holden front end with 2 inch dropped spindles.

Original gauges including gas gauge and speedo.

Has positively locking rumble lid and rear retractable seat belts fitted also.

Was not going to run head rests but put them on today and I don't mind them now.

Have a matching set that I will add to rumble lid as well.

Front custom splash apron to cover independent front end .

30 deluxe upper folding stanchions and custom made lower ones, as I did not want to cut any original model A part, even though I had 2 X perfect 28 stanchions.

It drives real nice for the little I have tested it and it will be a running as driving resto rod.

I know Ryan does not like rods, but this is not a radical rod nor rat rod.

Thought some of you guys may want a look at how a 28/29 body fits with 30 fenders and splash aprons, and what I have been asking all the questions about so far, and the thanks for the help you have given me.

I agree, it turned out real nice.
For some reason I thought you were building a Phaeton.

Looks good but the trunk and wheels would have to go for me. But it is your car and it does look good.

You need to find a large stuffed animal and put in the left seat.
Make it look like he's driving.

It will scare the @#$%^ out of people, should be good for a laugh or two.

I think the '30/31 fenders look pretty good on that car. I had never really given much thought to doing that before. But it looks good, post pictures when its done

Russ, was a funny thing about the solar.

We had just been burned by the govt. for insulation and I didn't trust them.

Had a friend who fitted the maximum of 9.6 KW and went on to tell me that it was paying him more money than his rented investment property was, and the solar cost 35K and the house cost 300K.

He said it was a no brainer.

So I applied and was one of the last to get the full rate of 60 cents a KW guaranteed til end of 2016... put on 54 panels of 180 watts each thru 2 inverters.

It cost me 36K after rebate.

So, even tho the change of govt. tried to chop us down to 20 cents a KW, they failed, and in the first year, I made 7.5K, so it will pay itself off by end 2016.

So, basically a free system by 5 years.

On a normal full sunny day as of april, I get about 45 - 50KW a day which is $27 - $30.

Tax free.. (so far), bet the govt. will tax us before 5 years is up.

I am certainly no greenie, but it is a warm fuzzy feeling when the sun is shining brightly and the inverters are buzzing away.

My system is called a gross system where I pay normal power coming into house and export ALL the solar generation back thru to lines.

It has a separate meter for what's going out.

Funny what people see in the background.

This time a horse and solar.

Last time i posted a pic it had a kombi van in background in neighbours yard and I got an ask on it.

And a few have said to lose the wheels. these are not rice burner wheels... I hunted high and low to get these cragar SS wheels ... faithful to 60/s original style.

!7 X 8 to fill the rear fender and 15 X 7 to put a nice stance at front.

Really sweet car, looks great. Thinking maybe a banjo steering wheel would look good in it.
Good job on going solar, I have solar heated water at my place here. LOVE IT!
