Default Engine turning article - Speedster project. "Hemmings"

I notice that the engine has the added horsepower of a red paint job!

I'm thinking of doing my firewall in my latest speedster project. Almost 20 yrs. ago we did
the valve covers, dash and firewall on a Bugatti. I wish I took pictures. We tried everything
before the last solution was boxes of pencils using the eraser end and 600 grit lapping compound. We used the mill with a DRO on it to get everything straight.
It took almost 3 wks. to do everything it was a huge job but came out awsome.

Years ago I worked at a Bugatti shop and did the firewalls and dash panels. We had a custom made fixture that gave a uniform spacing of the circles. Heavy grit valve lapping compound and rubber pads on a special holder were used. took a lot of time, but looked great when finished. Bob

My dad bought a new 1954 Ford Country Squire, and that's the thing I remember most about that car. I liked the engine turned instrument panel, thought it really gave the car class.
