My guess that it is a couple of college kids, who have been told, they look like Laurel and Hardy.
Morgantown, West Virginia is the hometown of West Virginia University.

could the lettering have been added in later years as Laurel and Hardy became a comedy team in what, around 1926 or so? The car looks older than that (no demountable rims) and the Buick (?) parked behind it looks like it is from the 'teens.

Looks to me like the "Laurel and Hardy" is on the photograph, not on the car itself, so it probably was added later.

Let me try to clear this up, I added the lettering on the car and no they are not
L&H. If you look close my name and Bill's name are above each of the characters
in the car. This was a humorous reply to being accused of performing a Laurel and Hardy act at the expense of the forum....,some people just don't have a sense of humor.
