Default Leaking waterpump 60hp

Hello
I have this 1937 v860 and I noticed that there is som water coming out of the little hole (se arrow on picture) from my left water pump. The car has been sitting for a couple of months. Is this some quick fix or do I have to pull the pump? I can live with some small dripping once in a while but the way it is now is too much because the fan belt throw water all over the engine bay.

thanks
Knut Haakon

When I grab the pulley at the end of the waterpump and try to move it sideways (up and down), I can feel its kind of loose. The other waterpump does not have these sideways movement. I guess this is a sign of badly worn pump?
Also, can anyone from the picture see what kind of wrench I need to loosen this pump? I know there is two types out there...

YUP it needs to be repaired or replaced. That's why that hole is there.

See who has a couple of rebuildable ones to sell you and send them to Skip Haney 941-639-0920, [email protected] in Florida to be rebuilt. When you get them back, you can do the whole job in a day.

Thanks!
But I guess they are not easy to remove without the special spanner tool?

Are you sure Skip does 60 pumps?

Yes, a spanner wrench is required. And yes, the pump is at the threshold of failure.
And finally, as Kiwi has suggested, check with George as to whether or not he rebuilds these pumps. I do not believe he does.

I believe the V8 60 pump rebuild kits are kind of plug and play. You unscrewed the old internals using the V8 60 specific spanner and put the new one in. These kits are available. I'd check Ebay and the like.

I believe the seller above is the old Kanter Auto Parts

https://www.ebay.com/itm/27615195100...Bk9SR66Hy-uqYw

This style is what you typically see. The complete unit.

Keep in mind there are two different pumps. One has a flat "face" while the other is tapered. They are not interchangeable.

The early pumps (37) were tapered and sealed with a couple of seals located on the taper. Later pumps (38-40), which yours appears to be, has a flat gasket or ring behind the lock ring and the timing cover. Red's Vintage Parts.Com has a list of 60hp parts and lists repro pump spanner wrenches for both type pumps. Most of the kits have both types of seals, the impeller, brg, spring, rubber nose cover will fit either type pump. I did not see any kits on this web site. They are rebuildable.

All of what you say is factual. However, I'd add a cautionary note... many of the timing gear covers have been changed in the past. So, until the original poster knows for certain what he has there, well, he'd be wise to hold off on purchasing any parts.

These pumps are simple and basic BUT without the correct tools can be a challenge to rebuild without the correct tools. Very easy to damage pumps and break pulleys. Must face mating surface of housing where impeller mates. I have rebuilt many but I now have correct tools including some I made.

Did you have the tapered pumps or "flat"?

I finally got the pump off But I have a question about the gasket , see pictures. There seems to be a double gasket (one leather and one cobber) where the pump seal to the timing cover ? Is this original ? I cannot se the copper seal on any drawings and the repair kit only contain one leather seal.
