Default Speedometer gear housing endcap

Hello and a Happy New Year to Everyone. I`am having a dickins of a time removing the endcap off the speedometer drivegear housing. It is inthere so hard, I am just flaring the lip of the cap. I`ve used some "blaster" peneterating fluid and no luck. I would have broken several screwdriver tips if I had been to crazy working on it. Any thoughts as to what I might try next? Thanks

Richard/Maine

Are you referring to the oval plate at the bottom of the Stewart Warner speedo?

Try this link to a thread https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78422

I eventually found the plate easy to remove, by freeing the lip with a blunt Stanley knife blade and then engaging a small screwdriver blade under one edge and popping it out.

If it absolutely won't come, it would be safe to drill a small hole, tap in a self-tapping screw and pull / lever on it with a Mole Wrench

Or are you referring to the drive gear housing on the transmission tube?

If you mean the "turtle"on the torque tube,I remove the end cap by drilling a small hole & pry it out with a punch. Then you can tap the shaft out towards the cable end.when its back together, use a drop of silicone to seal the hole to keep dirt out.

I am referring to the shaft retainer on the "turtle" on the speedometer cable end. The other end has an aluminum domed shaped plug.

Thanks
Richard

After removing the end cap, tapping out the shaft will bring the retainer with it.

So how do you remove the end cap? I see how I could drill a small hole and use a drift to push the pin and retainer out. But then, Ill need to fill the hole. Thoughts.

If you don't want to use silicone you could solder the hole before re installing.
