Re: marvel oil amount
I used the recommended dose which I think is 4 oz. in the tank per the bottle.

Re: marvel oil amount
I would not add any MMO to the oil in the crankcase as it would dilute the lubrication the regular oil is providing. Adding it to the gas trank is more of a personal preference. But, enjoy your A either way.

I agree with Mike. About 3 or 4oz in a tank

Re: marvel oil amount
I use the good gas and add 4 oz. per 10 gallons. I use this for all my small engines and Model A's.
If you have sticky valves now, then I'd add a can of Sea Foam to the gas and another can to the oil. |

Re: marvel oil amount
I add it to the oil just before (a day or two, three) the oil change . MMO is great stuff but it's a solvent, not a lubricant. I'd put it before your last two runs, then run it and get the engine hot, let it cool and let it get hot again , then drain the oil. It should come out black. Then take your finger and put it in the drain and try to get a sample of the sludge in the crankcase. Then put about 3 quarts of fuel oil and lit it sit, maybe start it and let it run a few minutes, Only at idle! And flush out the oil galleries. Let it sit and then drain the Fuel oil. I'd use about 3-4 ounces of MMO. Use a DETERGENT oil when replacing. The oil screens will clog with sludge without it.

Re: marvel oil amount
I would not start a motor with 3 quarts of fuel oil taken place of oil. Maybe 1 quart of fuel oil to 4 quarts of oil.

Re: marvel oil amount
will stick with mmo in the gas tank. upon looking further on the peel back label mmo recommends 1 qt mmo to 4 qts oil. I don't have sticking valves and I have cleaned the pan when I fixed the oil tube problem. im trying to avoid valve problems due to the poor gas quality and the fact the car doesn't get started as often as it should. thanks guys...

Re: marvel oil amount
There was a study concerning oil and gas additives posted on this forum a year are so ago. This study should be required reading for folks using additives.

Re: marvel oil amount
Just Harking back to my flathead V8 days when we did this. Sludge was as much of a problem then as it was 30s. Obviously, you don't it long or run it fast. When I first heard an oldtimer tell me to do this, I thought he was kidding but he wasn't. We used it with the early Y blocks too. They were always clogging the oil galleries to the rocker arm shafts and the rocker arms would run dry.

Re: marvel oil amount
OK, It sounds as though your bottom end is in great shape so there's no need of any remedies. I wouldn't even use MMO with each tank of gas, maybe every second or third tank.

Re: marvel oil amount
Fuel Oil? As in Home Heating Oil, which is Diesel Fuel, which is a Kerosine? Your putting 3 quarts of Kerosine in your engine and running it?

Re: marvel oil amount
I use MMO in the gas and oil and it has never caused a problem. Too much in the gas can cause oily spark plugs especially if the ignition is a little cold like most. M<MO in the oil reduces friction and has a good detergent effect. If you really want to clean out a dirty engine, run it with a quart of automatic transmission fluid in the oil. This has worked for me. Everybody is on their own and I really hesitate to make recommendations on anything.

Re: marvel oil amount
it apears to act as a fuel stablizer in my antique motorcycles.
winter experiment =1917 triumph one kick starter when cold ,fuel right out of the can 2 months in tank lots -O futzing to start. MM in gas same period starts fine , just my real experience thou..if it works dont fix dont think I'd put it in the oil in a running engine but I have soaked stuck engines in it with amazing sucess ! |

Re: marvel oil amount
Many years ago, when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, I took a power mechanics class in college as an elective. The professor supplemented his income with buying old cars and reviving them
He swore by the quart of automatic transmission fluid in the old for a few miles before an oil change. He said the ATF was very high in detergents and would clean out the inside of the engine. I just acquired my 31 A and the oil has just been changed, but I plan to do this in a 1000 miles (or six months, which ever comes first).
