Cleaning out my cams

Going threw my old cams looking for the 300 jr I had in the stockcar I ran across a weber caO4oX with .402 lift. Don't my setup together to check duration and was wondering if Pete might have a list of weber cams better than the old advertizing one I have.

Sorry, nothing on Weber here.

Ron,

Can you double check that number? I think any Weber with an X at the end indicates it is a radius lifter cam.

Weber F4 is 282 duration and 340 lift.

Yes, the lift is what threw me off, that's alote of lift for an old cam. I'll clean it up and have my daughter read the numbery, much newer eyes.

My first "hotrod" flathead was 284 cubic inches and had a Weber F6 cam in it. The cam sounded good, but I wasn't terribly happy with it (just ran out of power too soon). I then swapped over to a Potvin 425 Eliminator . . . now that was a lot better . . . ran that with three Holley 2110 carbs (they flow about 30% more than a 97).

Then I went to a cam that Tom Hutchinson called the "awful awful" (don't know the actual grind numbers/letters) - an Erson grind with .450 lift and a ton of duration - and added a blower. Now that was the cat's ass. LOL

Didn't really want to idle below about 1200 . . . but it was fun! LOL

If I recall correctly, I believe Ron used that cam as well after the 400Jr.

We all have had a degree of learning by way of cams over the years. My little 258 blower combination on the street ran strong with a Potvin 3/8 super we figured it was making a good 300 HP. Same engine testing in my 3000 pound race car at the 1.5 mile speed trap ran 171MPH at the timers. Another great cam I ran and still have is the Crane R-450 anything over 450 lift would be to big to fit threw the flathead cam bearings so that was the limit from what I know.

Another good choice I used many times was the old reliable L-100 ground using the original
Laterio cam grinder and master. And lastly from the good old days I ran the Potvin 425 ground on the 32 steel cam. Don't know where that one ended up can't find it in my stash of stuff!

No, this iz just one of the cams I had in the junk pile. The Sig Erson D410 replaced the 400jr. Went Threw a few more today, but didn't find anything worth talking about. Too cold to stay too long in the shop, so i skipped out I was thinking of setting up sablock to check duration as well but haven't found any interesting cams yet!!

Yup. We had a Super Torque 2 in our home made 4 cylinder Chev in our midget.
Excellent grind. Very high lift velocity.

RR I used an L-94? In an engine when I had a few and wish I had it back. Much better street cam. Same sound but more low end torque. You probably have the specs there someplace. I misplaced mine along time ago/

Taking inventory of my cams, I ran across a NOS Wolverine #933. Seems like a pretty useless grind with 280/268 duration and 52 degrees overlap with only a .320 inch lift.

John R, Sounds like a good street cam. Good low end torque and fuel mileage. Think Application With the cost of changing the cam. aesthetics are too expensive.
