“The Complete Model ‘A’ Ford Restoration Manual.”

Never before has a book been written in such technical detail, with so many accompanying pictures. Every page, (bar a few introductory pages,) are in color. Described by one proof reader as ‘a book like no other’. It describes in technical detail all you want to know on the complete restoration of a Model 'A' Ford (left or right hand drive) to its original condition. The book is now spiral bound (after a lot of requests) with a semi hard cover, and has some 25 pages of introduction on the restoration process, and articles such as; how to measure a bolt, (properly), thread tables, standard finish of parts and four pages of in depth index, plus introductory pages. The information and pictures this book displays, was said to me to be ‘beyond belief’, with over 48 years of restoration advice and tips.

As an example of body restoration, three 1930 'Open Cars" have been used, although this book mechanically would apply to all Model 'A's. It covers many helpful articles that other writers fail even to suggest. What the book contains, is what I would want, if I was restoring a car. No beating round the bush, just hard facts and specifications.
Being retired, I want to pass my information to the beginner, Model ‘A’ owners and restorers.
A complete (but imaginary) 1930 vehicle, 83 years old, with zero miles on the speedo, is used, so it is 100% complete and original.

The book starts with the complete disassembly of the mechanical parts from the frame. Complete disassembly of the body, and removal of the body from the frame. Parts are cleaned, inspected, repaired, painted, polished, electroplated, replaced, or what ever the case may be. Specifications are supplied throughout the book. The major components eg diff, front end, and gearbox, are restored in one section of the book, so the reader is not searching through the book looking for different parts of the restoration process for one part. Correct part numbers for LHD and RHD are shown with the parts respective finishes as per the 1930 Parts Price list. All the major components are fitted to a fully straightened and restored frame along with minor components to complete the frame to a drivable stage.
This book is not written as a judging standard, but a ‘how to’ book and shows different but original standards of Model ‘A assembly in other countries.

The book also covers, basic body work, media blasting, full engine reconditioning, shock absorber restoration, gearbox and diff restoration, body painting, aligning the body, purchasing upholstery kits, top bows, tops and side curtain installation, pin striping, all covered with pictures and text. The assembled car is eventually started and driven away. The book does not end there. There are a lot of smaller interesting sections throughout the book such as articles purely for beginners, eg, putting a tire on a rim and installing the hubcap correctly, operating the GAV, (gas adjustment valve), correct operation of the spark retard and throttle levers, finding a good media blaster and engine reconditioner, plus more. This book is a must for those who may have acquired a Model ‘A’. E.g. a deceased estate and know little about the car. There are following chapters on simple matters, general maintenance, headlight and clutch adjustment, brake rod and shoe adjustment, lubrication, etc.
The book is easy to follow. It is written so that a new beginner can understand and follow. Actually written with beginners in mind, and all pictures in full colour.
Also included is a trouble shooting section, an article on a ‘one owner’ 1929 Fordor Sedan, Canadian and USA engine and body numbering sequences, a ‘how to start and drive the car’, lubrication, facts and figures, short interesting stories, and lots more, with even a couple of Model ‘A’ poems.

With quite a few aspects of the restoration process unavailable to the restorer these days, the book stresses on how important good Model ‘A’ Parts Suppliers and Trade Shops are. Items such as the complete top, top irons, seat springs and upholstery, engine parts, etc are a few examples where their services are a must. This is no different, than say a restorer trying to make his own tires. You have to rely on the strengths of other manufacturers and suppliers. Stressed is how important local engineering shops and engine shops are to the restorer if you do not have the engineering equipment or skills.
Tops, side curtains, seat springs and upholstery are all purchased as complete kits for local upholstery shops to install. Many pictures are included of top, seats, side curtains, pin striping etc.
The engine is sent to a local ‘engine shop’ for either a long or short block assembled engine, although text and pictures of engine assembly are included with all specifications.
Painting and pinstriping are both handled in a similar manner. If every detail of these items were explained in fill with pictures, and every body style covered, the book would be way too heavy and extremely expensive. I have struck a happy medium. Some of the above areas of restoration you may want to undertake yourself.
There are hundreds and hundreds of color pictures, showing every part with it's correct part number. 366 pages of technical information. Great for the beginner or the restorer.
This book covers LHD and RHD vehicles.
My books are available from most leading Model 'A' parts suppliers.
Many reputable parts suppliers and trade shops are advertising at the rear of the book. Please support them for your Model 'A' restoration. 12 more books in the series to be written with three more already partially written.
If you would like to be a reseller of this book and forthcoming books, or require books please contact Les. Pearson at [email protected]
The pricing structure is designed for reseller opportunities.

Does this cover body structure and details of where each part attaches to the next? The body on mine has multiple missing joints due to being very rusted. I've bought new parts but the methods of aligning the structure and joining the parts are elusive.

Any reviews of this book will it show in detail for example size, location and installation of the body wood blocks?
