Default Model a starter rpm? Also how to slow down starter

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone knows how many rpms does a model a
Starter make on. 6volt and with 12 volts?

I cannot find info on starter rpms

Also is there anyway to slow down a starter?
Possibly with some sort of reastat?

Lasty I tryed to slow down a dual wheel bench grinder with a light dimmer reostat with no luck.

Building a demo power hammer and like to use a slowed down motor

Thank you for your help

Starter rpm depends on the load it is trying to turn ---some of the specs I have found---

2700 rpm, 6V 50 amps
14ft lbs, 0 rpm, 3.75V 560 amps
normal cranking --100 engine rpm, 225 amps @4.74 volts

it will run slower with lower voltage, but it will take more amps, and the windings are made for short time use, there is no provision to shed heat,

??

you will need quite an expensive rheostat that can shed some heat and amps

as stated above a starter motor is NOT rated for continuous duty. At all. Just a quick start and be done.

This was the brilliance of Charlie Kettering who invented the electric starter...everyone told him an electric starter motor would have to be as big as the motor it was starting, because they all thought inside the box as to wire size, amp ratings, etc. They were all missing the point of rapid intermittent usage, which he envisioned. Once he could get outside the box, he had it.

Any attempt at continuous use will result in letting all the smoke out of it.

Try a VFD. Google it to read about them.
