Default Eaton Power Steering Pump for a 1953 Mercury

It appears that Ford and Mercury used Eaton Power Steering pumps for 53'-55'. Does anyone know if the pulley shaft in the 1953 pump was the same one used in the 1954 and later pumps. Would anyone have the Eaton part numbers or a catalog listing the pumps and applications.

Not sure what you are looking for. The picture I have just shows the unit in the car. I all attached pictures from the repair manual.

That's a good pic, thanks.
What I'm specifically looking for is a view showing the mounting brackets attached to the engine. I have a complete power steering setup out of a 1959 Ford car, the whole shooting match. I'm looking at using the control valve, pump and ram on my 42 pickup. My engine is 8BA style with two narrow belts. It would make my job a little easyer if I can see how the pump is mounted on the flathead. My pump is an Eaton, looks same as your pics.
I see it's bolted to the head, does the other part of the bracket bolt to water pump? Is there another sheeve on the crank pulley for the steering pump, or does it use the stock crank pulley?
Many thanks,
Martin.

Sorry I don't have other pictures of the other mounting points. And yes you will have to change the pulley from a two belt to a three belt. Here is another option for the pulley:

This is not the crankshaft three belt pulley. It's the pulley for the pump.
P/N for the pulley would be (EAC 6312-A)

Bracket mounts to engine using (2) 3-5/32" long head bolts along with a spacer and longer bolt to the water pump area.

51 MERC-CT: thank you for the correction, my error. There was an after market add on pulley that was made to go in front of the 2 belt pulley with a longer bolt. Later on they drilled the 2 belt pulley and so the add on pulley just bolted on the the 2 belt with two bolts. I will admit it has been a while since I have seen one though for the 53'.

You don't have a dimensions on the input shaft used in the pump on the 53" do you? I have been told that 3 lengths were used during that period: 3.98", 4.67" (56'-57') and 3.72" (for 58' and later). The 3.98" is supposed to be the correct one, and was also used on the 56' T-Bird. I can buy a complete power steering unit for a 53' but it is missing the input shaft, hence my search.

The listing for the '53 pump shaft is ( 3-63/64" o.a.l.) or 3.980".

51 MERC-CT,

Thank you, I have found a source for the shaft (they are still made), so life is good.

Let me know if you need additional pictures, now that I have the unit in my car, it will be no problem.
