With the narrow belt and green paint on the engine,, good chance it's a Merc.. If the crank is good, there is probably $400.00 right there.. 40 was the first column shift,, lot of guys put the 39 trans in them which was on the floor, and full synchronized.. A 39 transmission is worth a nickle or two also.

Nice find well worth pulling it out of there. If not restorable it would make a great parts car for someone restoring their own

Hood Trim/spears are different. The 39 has two hood trim/spears on each side; the 40 has only one on each side. The car in the photo seems to have only holes there for the 1940 hood spears.

Gosh! I wonder why someone would leave a decent car like that out in the woods.
What a shame. Save it if you can.

I would freak out if I found an old '40 coupe with a Merc block just sitting out in the woods!!!

Please take a moment to reflect on how cool this is, alone!

That car is definitely saveable, as a complete car, to the right person.

There are a lot of valuable parts, so pull lightly with the tractor!

It is a shame somebody drove this out and left it, decades ago, but you get to be it's breath of new life. Good find!

Hi and Welcome to the FordBarn! Your property buy came with a little bonus, didn't it!

As for the question of rescuing it, that seems answered to me.

So, everyone... How should he go about dragging it out? Try to get a pair of straps/chains around the front of the frame somewhere? The trees behind it seem a problem. Having an expert tow truck operator could add some lift to the problem, it sure looks sunk into the ground. It also looks like you'll be pulling uphill a little.

Jdiami, does your tractor have a bucket?

You might consider making a deal for it where she sits.

It looks like you've backed your truck up to the front end of the car so there is some semi-solid ground there at least.

Just some thoughts. Congrats on the find.

EDIT: Oh yeah, please share more photos, especially ones of getting it to higher ground.

If nothing else, it might make for some great yard art. I wouldn't mind having something like that sittin' by the barn, just for 'eye candy'. Yeah, it's got value, maybe not $$$ but they sure don't make 'em like that anymore.

If it was me, I'd take out the grill before I moved it. Try to have some some keep the wheel straight to not bend stuff up. While it looks like junk, it's pretty easy to screw up several hundreds dollars worth of parts by just "yanking it out" farmer brown style.

I had my 4wd truck chained to it, and a buddies 4wd dually chained to me...it didn't budge, and I was afraid to snap on it too much. It's sucked into the mud pretty good. Think we're gonna get a tractor with a front end loader. Hopefully can get a strap around the motor/frame and pick the front up a little then pull it out. It had three or four 6" trees in front as well, but I had already cut those out. Gonna try again Monday or Tuesday.
