Default Fitting full floater rod bearings

I need to fit the full floater rod bearings for the 37. All I have is a common bench vise not a connecting rod vise. I am worried that the repeated torquing to check and recheck the bearing roundness will tweek the rods. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You need to read Ol Ron's book for the correct procedure. Maybe he will chime in. Need to know the bearing thickness, the journal diameter and the rod id. Then you measure the span of the bearing to get the proper spread. I don't remember that dimension.

Thanks, I have Ron's book as well as two others. The measurements have been taken and I want to check that the bearing will actually float. Here is a Youtube Video of what I would like to do without tweeking the rods.

The video works for me. I always add an extra .001" to the rod bore. But, fitted right in the first place, it might not be necessary. Also check bearing thickness. Stocl is 110", however I look for .109. Another thing, I don't like using New bearings, I prefer used ones, as some new ones tend to flake. (Originals only)

Another thing that I do is turn up a mandril the sane size as the crank journal, this I polished smooth and use it and the rods to get the bearings right.

The measurements come out to.002" clearance by doing the math. Here is a photo of the .030" under bearings I have. Not sure of the age or manufacturer but I suspect they are at least several years or more old.
