Default Windshield Glass

I can’t find windshield glass on the Brattons, Snyder’s, or Bert’s websites. Am I searching wrong or is the glass not available?

I get mine from Auto City Classics in Isanti MN. Phone 800 828 2212. Price is good and shipping is lightning fast. Glass is the best I have found.

Mine were made at a local glass dealer. Dimensions are in the Model A Service manual. You want laminated glass.

Bratton's got out of the windshield glass business. Too many returns due to breakage in shipping they told me when I fortunately got the last '29 Roadster windshield glass they had in stock.

I have them done locally. The price to correctly pack and ship has gotten astronomical. And,if you're lucky damage claims can take weeks,if not it can take months.I have a guy that used to do A windshields for me for $100.installed in the frame. He wanted the frame cleaned, and ready to go.That was also using his choice of bedding material. If you wanted to use something original he would charge X amount for the glass.and XX per hour until it was done.

Some added questions:

I'm asking these because of the crash article in the latest MAFCA magazine.

1. How can I confirm my glass in the car is definitely safety glass? I've looked for the etching that you see on modern cars. Since they came that way from the factory, is it pretty unlikely that plain glass has been installed?

2. How do I get the frame off the car, if it turns out I need new glass, I don't see anything in the Les Andrews book?

Hold a match or a lighter close to the glass.Wiggle it around a little and if it is laminated you will see a reflection plus almost a shadow reflection. You can also set something like a business card edge against the glass and angle it around. You will see a reflection plus the shadow reflection when you hit the correct angles.Plain glass will always give you just one reflection,no matter what you do.There is a row of screws going straight up into the header that holds the hinge.Unhook the swing arms and swing the windshield out as far as possible to get a screwdriver straight onto them.

I see two reflections when I do the test side windows, too, so thanks for the tip!

Usually if you look at the edge of laminated glass, such as from the top of the side windows when rolled down, you can see the two layers with a line in between.[QUOTE]
