What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
I finally got my new stock hood on my 39 and it appears to extend too far out over the grill. What might I do to fix my problem? Almost seems I need to adjust the grill forward but can that be done?
Anyone ever have this happen? Phil in Chambersburg Pics won't upload Last edited by 36 ford; 04-17-2014 at 07:39 PM. |

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
Is it a repro hood and how does it fit at the cowl?

It's genuine and it fits well at the cowl

Did the car leave the factory with that hood on it? If not you will probably have to fit the front assembly to the hood.

Never heard of a repro hood. Grilles for Argentinian sure. Good Luck: Fred A |

Using 1/4" bolts to attach the grille to the fenders rather than 5/16" may give you that extra clearance you need in order to get the it to come forward.

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
The hood is off another 39. What is involved in fitting the fenders to the grille assembly? Thanks for the replies and Swoop, thanks for the tip on using smaller bolts

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
You will have to loosen up all bolts to the front clip starting from the running boards forward. Then move the clip to match the hood.

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
Thanks JimTN, The grille would remain bolted to the fenders and not loosened when the front clip bolts are loosened and the fenders are drawn forward....Is that correct?

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
Not sure how to correct the problem but I have a question. does the hood have an early or late latch assembly and do both the hood and grille latch assembly's match?

Re: What's wrong with this 39 Deluxe hood?
Jim TN has the right idea with smaller bolts . This is a pretty common issue with lining up the front clip . You will likely need to remove the front grill-fender bolts and elongate the holes with a metal burr to allow the grill to pull forward . With smaller bolts and elongated holes , you can usually get the grill forward . ( You can't do much with the hood if it is already good with the cowl ) . Good luck , let us know how it goes .

any more pictures? is possible to loosen the front fenders & skirts and pull the whole assy forward? as this would bring the grill forward also.
