37 Hump conversion to Flatback
I'm considering converting my 37 Humpback to a Flatback. Why? Body on hump is nice while other than trunk lid and surrounding sheetmetal the flat is in
rough shape and I've always admired the appearance of the slantback 37's. Also I have the rear fenders for the slantback. It looks doable, am I wrong? Thanks in advance for your opinions. |

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
Piece of cake if you are capable of doing metal work or are you just looking for approval.
Don't dilly-dally, start cutting and fitting and stop hemming and hawing and looking for approval.

Find a fastback you can study and take measurements from, detail pictures and so on.

Ah, not looking for approval, just asking a simple question and I'm not dilly dallying or hemming and hawing. Unless you are just joking your attitude kind of sucks.

As 51M suggested, it looks easily doable. But if it was mine, I'd disapprove. Jack E/NJ |

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
Maybe it's doable easily with Photshop, but there is a major difference in the contour of the sheet metal below the back window. The entire back section would have to be swapped with one from a slant back.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
If you do not have good sheet metal skills and equipment, I would leave the car alone. Besides that hump back is better looking in my opinion.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
I much prefer the look of the hump back, but everyone has different taste.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
The fact that the two body types have different rear fenders is a big clue that there is more to the conversion than meets the eye.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
I agree with David....plus, so many of these old Ford's were cut up and screwed up over the years, it just seems ashame to cut one now that has survived. Why not find someone willing to trade what you would like to have for the humpback you have now? Probably just a stupid thought on my part.

Hi Everyone. I like to drive. Get the car for what you really like to do with it.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
My preference is the slant back, much better looking IMO. Best bet is to find a donor car for the sheet-metal.

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback
if it was me and I had both cars id go for it ,but I'm a body guy I wanted to do this to a 37 sedan I had but getting the flatback parts for the swap was to costly from the usa , however if you do do this conversion have you thought of getting a set of 1938 standard rear fenders the side profile would be great
