'41 vs '47 front bumper guards & overrider bars
I am looking for a set of front bumper guards and an overrider bar for my '47 coupe. I found a good '41 overrider bar but before I buy it I want to be sure it will fit my '47. Can anyone tell me if the '41 overrider will work with '47 bumper guards?
I guess I can trim the upper edges of the '47 guards to match the profile of the overrider if needed but the spacing of the guards and width of the overrider is critical I would think. Thanks, Jim Last edited by Harrison; 09-27-2011 at 07:43 AM. |

I don’t think they are interchangeable as the distance between the bumper guards is different. Also, the ’41 with the guard in the photo has a notch in the bumper guards where the guard fits, the ’47 does not.

Thanks Vic.
I'm not against notching my guards but the difference in lengths between the guards would be tough to fudge. The search continues I guess... Jim |

the front bumper on your 41 is originaly a one piece part. That is, the bumpers extend in one piece. Be advised that 41's used two types of bumpers. The super de luxe bumpers go on converetables and other more expensive cars. The other bumper looks like a 40 bumper as it has no ridges. The wing tip accessories are made for the two types of bumpers, that is ,they won'interchange. Same thing for the stifferner that goes in behind the "grill guard" as i call it. By the way, the stifferners are a hard to find part. On interchange with any other year, i doubt if it would fit well. The best choice is to find a 41 bumper( the correct one for your car) and install it. Also with tha grill guard. Big al |
