Default 54 Mercury Carb question

I removed a carburetor off my 54- 256 engine to replace with an original rebuilt. There was a gasket under the bakelite spacer, then the spacer, then two more gaskets on top. Shouldn't there be only one gasket on each side of the Bakelite spacer that the carb attaches to???

Yes. Maybe it was to better align the linkages..... Who knows.

People have been known to try and fix small vacuum leaks this way as well.
