Default wiring re: coil (6V)

Need to replace this coil which is remoted from the distributor. On top the old coil has 2 posts, one says "Dist." and the other says, "Batt."; however in following the wires the one that says "Dist." is wired to the battery( 1940 Ford DeLuxe Conv., neg. ground) and the one that says "Batt." is wired to the distributor. A further complication occurs inasmuch the new coil on the top has only + and - markings to identify it. For any help- much thanks.

hi, Just a note to say, you are in the "Questions & Suggestions" section, which is more for questions about This FordBarn site.
I think you will get more responce in the " General Discussion" forum, and look for the "Early V/8" section for help. Good Luck......
