No air space means no place for the vapors to expand into. We all have seen half-filled, sealed, plastic gas cans swell up like a balloon on a hot day, and crush in when it gets cold. Fill that same plastic can to the top, and it won't do that. FWIW, any sealed container you put a liquid in is gonna be pressurized if it's hotter than it was when you filled it.

While traveling in Nebraska last weekend, I found straight gas priced 10 % more than gas\ethanol at "Casey's".

While driving in the cornhuskers state.

Do you remember when we used to add dry gas to our tanks? well dry gas is alcohol. I have old cars, mowers, chain saws, generators, blowers and some sit for several seasons I just crank them up and away I go. Whats the problem?

I remember being on a party line................if you had four other numbers or less on your line, you was in great shape. Wanted to hear the local gossip, just pick up and listen away.

It is sad to see this thread drift away from 'Shelf Life of Gasoline', to a 'I have this old phone' thread. Perhaps it is time to start another thread relating to "I Remember Old Phones" ; thereby leaving this tread to address the issue of "Shelf Life of Gasoline".

And where do you think that pressure comes from? Butanes vaporizing out of the liquid gasoline.

Remember Normal Butane has a boiling point of 30°F and a vapor pressure pressure of 25psi, meaning the pressure in your "Plastic Gas Can" would have to be over 25psi for the Butane to stay in a liquid form at anything over 30°F.

A Race Trac service station had non ethanol gas for $2.69 per gallon. 10% ethanol was $1.93.

"No product exists that will prevent water absorption by alcohol."[/QUOTE]

A Model A Radiator cap with a good gasket substituted for the gas cap once in the garage WILL do just that.

I do so not so much to prevent water absorption (here in southern Arizona humidity is frequently < 25% or less) but to prevent the evaporation of gasoline and accumulation of vapor in the garage during the warmer months.
