Re: Muffler shield under the floor boards???
I use sheet asbestos, about 1/8 inch thick. I screwed it to the floor boards under the passenger side... sprayed with high temp black. Works GREAT!! Others have used asbestos siding (double thickness)

Re: Muffler shield under the floor boards???
I made one like Jasons using a stove pipe. I had to cut about 3 inches off the circumference, made brackets from some electrical clamps and used 4 large duct clamps. It works well, the air channels between the muffler and the pipe steel and carries the heat back. No rattles. I wrapped the exhaust pipe in that heat tape hot rodders use . It also helps and it quiets the exhaust noise noticeably. For a test run we drove out to the desert in Nevada during the heat wave and we survived. I was thinking of wrapping the muffler in the heat tape and then re installing the stove pipe shield over the tape. At the least it should help reduce the noise and will probably help with the heat too.

Re: Muffler shield under the floor boards???
I use a heat shield from Brattons. It works well.
Now if you want to make momma happy, freeze some water bottles. Put a couple on a towel or pillow on the floor board and have momma but her tootsies on the cold bottles. She will love ya for thinking of this. |

Re: Muffler shield under the floor boards???
Several years ago we did an article comparing the various deflectors and mufflers. We took the temperature on the inside of a roadster right on the floor of the passengers feet. The Aries muffler without a baffle did as well as the best deflector on another brand of muffler. It reduced the heat from the Aries too.
