Default Identify these drums?

Guys what year drum does this look like?

I was going to purchase a set of MT drums to replace mine [39 Lockheed style brakes ] they said in a return email I needed 40 - 41 hubs.. why are they not all the same from 39 - 48 ?

'40-'41 hubs mounted inside the drums (like in your picture); while '42-'48 had the drum mounted inside the hub. These dates are general as the later hub/drum assemblies were service items for earlier cars and of course used parts fit any year car.

Just to be sure. Remember, MT drums do not use pressed in studs. You will also need to buy the hubs and bearings. You may also need to grind down a small area on the top of your king pin boss so the Lincoln backing plate will fit, if you plan to use the Lincoln backing plates. This is mentioned in the MT instructions. 1940 Ford is shown below. I bought mine from http://cornhuskerrodandcustom.net/Pages/home.aspx Owner is Fordbarner "Krylon32". Good service. No problems.

FYI: 1940 stock front brake drum is shown below.

I installed the same MT set up on my 35 coupe as 19Fordy. Stopping power is definitely better!!

The 1939 "Wide Five" (Like a volkswagon drum) was a 1 year only....
The early drum was a 21 A 1125 Fomoco (1940 - 1941 / 1948)
The later drum was a 51 A 1125 Fomoco (1940 / 1942 - 1948).....

Both were reproe'd but the repro house went out of business!!!!!!

They are a bit of a problem on the planet NEW at the moment....
Stay tuned.......

The 1939 drums were not a one year only. 37 and 38 are the same. 1936 had wide vents in the face of the drum.

19Fordy glad I looked it your picture again as I see the grease cups go back in ok . Also I just noticed in your picture of the assembled brakes that your linings seem to be the same size, normally on this style of brakes you have a leading shoe which is a shorter lining? That's what was supplied in my set..

yes, with self energizing brakes (like the lincoln stuff you got) the short shoe is to the front. plain old ford is the other way, but most new shoes come in equal length, and some with different color lining for front and back, i forget how that goes, but yes, you do short shoe to the front
