This past weekend I saw a 1959 Ford Skyliner at a local auction. I had never seen one in person and was amazed at how it worked. This particular one was a true original survivor and in amazing original condition. The interior was almost like new as well as the dash. Paint was ORIGINAL and in very good original condition. Engine was clean and ran very nice. The air cleaner and valve covers were orange--was that correct for that year? I think the engine was a 292 as I remember them saying that and it was the original one from the factory. Undercarriage was also amazing. I just thought I'd post this as I was really impressed with a car like that and it being in original condition. Is that rare for that model and condition being original like that? What is a car like that worth in today's market? Can you tell I'm really taken by this car?!

The car stayed local and I was able to see it again. The top closed perfect from being open completely but then would not retract all the way. I helped work on (or tried) for awhile but I don't understand these cars. I told I would ask on here to try and get help for the owner. The trunk would go all the way up, then the top would unscrew from the the front windshield but it would not raise up and go back into the trunk. All the electrical seems to be working but it sounded like something was not working properly in the area right behind the back window in the area where the back windows roll down. It was making a loud popping sound and not retracting, it was trying but wouldn't do it. Any help appreciated and I'll pass it along.

You need a manual on it to troubleshoot. The system works one step at a time, i.e., step 2 will not start until step 1 has completed. Where it stops gives you a clue on where to start looking.

Knoggin... The Skyliner likes to be parked on level ground for the top to work perfectly. Park it on a side hill and the top movement will often stall during its operation.

I was at Carlisle this weekend and saw a beautiful green/white Skyliner. Unbelievable restoration... asking 95k.

It's on dead level ground. The trunk lid raises perfect, then the roof unscrews from front windshield normal but roof won't raise up and back. Makes a popping noise like it won't unlock insider ear door panel areas or something

Check your solenoids, and wiring at them.

There is a row of solenoids behind the rear seat area, but as been said, get a manual, cuz they can be a electrical nightmare when not functioning properly.
