29 steering wheel fit
Do these pictures look right? There seems to be too much space between the steering wheel and the steering column???!! I don't have another 29 to compare so if someone could just let me know if it is right or not!!!
Also---look at the light switch rod that sticks out of the steering box--is that right--seems like it should come out more??? |

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
I have checked my 29 and it does not have that much space between the wheel and column

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
I'd also deepen the notches on your spark and throttle quadrant with a triangle file so the levers will stay put.

28-29 7-tooth steering box uses A-3616-B lite switch rod 45 3/4" long The 29 2-tooth Gemmer box uses A-3616-C lite switch rod 45" long.

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
That looks to be too much space. It probably has a 30-31 2 tooth steering shaft which is 1" longer than the 29 2 tooth steering shaft

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
The steering wheel hub on my 9-27-28 with 7 tooth steering is about 1/16" to 1/8" from the steering column bushing. It's never been apart.
I'll go out and look at my 2-23-29 Tudor with 2 tooth steering. My 29 is the same as my 28, about 1/16" between the steering wheel hub and the column bushing. Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 11-08-2012 at 01:21 PM. |

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
Well so much for unmolested...guess it was molested somewhere in the past. Good thing though, I need every inch I can get that wheel up.

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
Fred93 I think your worm shaft is about 1" to long.In feb 1930,the worm shaft in the 2-tooth box was made 1" longer. The shaft in the 29 & early 30 Gemmer box was shorter & required light switch rod A-3616-C for a 1930 model.I think someone in the past had installed the later shaft in the early Gemmer box.Pages 481 & 517 of the Service Bulletins has info on changes in worm brgs.

Re: 29 steering wheel fit
In post #14,the 29 Gemmer box required light switch rod A-3616-C & the early 30 Gemmer box requires LS rod A 3616-G.Should have proof read it beforehand.
