Re: Bead Vs. Sand Vs. Walnut Blasting vs. Other media
There are a lot of different names for blast media.
USUALLY the fastest cutting one is aluminum oxide. This is the chemical name....Many fancy names have been used to sell it. It comes in various grits (sizes)..Obviously the courser grits cut faster. The smaller the number the courser the grit. 36 grit will cut faster than 60 grit but leave a much rougher surface. Aluminum oxide is very hard on carbide blast cabinet nozzles. There is no free lunch..You need to decide whether you want speed or economy. Glass bead will do a large percentage of the jobs in a restoration shop. It is very economical as far as area done per dollar. If you want a very fine grain surface and minimal surface distortion some of the walnut or similar media work best. |
