Default Skip Haney

I want to send a coil to Skip for a rebuild. The phone number I have for him does not work.

Can anyone tell me if he is still rebuilding coils?

Thanks!

That is a scary thought. As far as I know he is the only one who can do what he does with the coil, and I believe he has kept it a closely guarded trade secret. Wonder if he has been training someone to take over his business when he wants to retire?

That's really odd. I verified the number I listed was the one on my phone. Maybe there is an issue with the phone service in FL?

941-637-6698 says your call cannot be completed as dialed.

I also sent him an email this morning.

I'm happy to report that I spoke to Skip on the phone this afternoon. All is well with him and he's still rebuilding coils. The current price is $120, includes shipping.

What is good or different about Skip's Coils as compared to a stock 6V coil?

Skip uses only the best materials. Cuts no corners. He has become, by years of practice, the "King of Coils".

The main thing is that his are essentially new. Ford coils deteriorate over time. I'll bet there aren't more than a handful of original coils running, if any.

I am running an original Ford coil on a '37 Ford. As Tubman said, they deteriorate over time. I figure my original coil is on borrowed time. I had an original on the shelf so I sent it to Skip. There is nothing better than an igintion system that is operating at 100% efficiency.

As others have said, I hope that Skip eventually passes the rebuild information onto the next generation when the time comes. I have a good idea what he is using. I would like to see the process of opening them up, cleaning them and installing the new coil inside.

It would be an interesting story for someone to write about. I believe it was his late friend who used to post here as "GM" that convinced Skip to set up to rebuild water pumps and coils. George (GM) was a very innovative guy and there are many members from Florida who knew him that are still on here I believe.

You are correct. GM was Skip's boss. George passed a year or two ago.
