Problem with replacement Tillotson carbs?
Does anyone know of a problem with replacement Tillotson carbs? I have called two suppliers and both have said they have discontinued stocking them. Thank you for any information you might have

Re: Problem with replacement Tillotson carbs?
They are junk!
Both Bratton's and Snyder's don't carry them anymore. I bought one from Bratton's last spring. It leaked like a sieve; all the time. Called Bratton's and they reported there were so many problems with these repops and the manufacturer would not stand behind them. They refunded my money and that was when I was told they were no longer stocking this item Shortly before that time Snyder's had decided not to stock the repop Tillotson. They look nice but that's about as far as it goes. Save your money and get a good rebuilt Zenith. |

I may be wrong, but if I remember correctly, the Tillotson carbs were made of pot metal and didn't stand up well to long term usage.
The Zeniths are much better. Rog |

I am not concerned with old Tillotson carbs, but am wondering about the reproductions. Where do they leak? Needle and seat? Gaskets? There are some very reputable venders still selling them, so some of them must be good.

A better question would be; where don't they leak? When I pay over $300.00 for a new carb I should not have to tear it apart to make it function properly. But then, It's your money so if you want to purchase a "pig in a poke" then go for it. You then have the opportunity to gain some great knowledge as you work your way through the carb fixing all of its problems. Have fun! |
