MSRA's Back to the Fifties event
Minnesota Street Rod Association's Back to the Fifties event was another great success even though it rained most of Saturday. The car count has surpassed the NSRA's Street rod Nationals in Louisville the past few years in a row. count at the end of ceremonies was over 11,500 cars. How many of you barner's made it to this years show? check out the 1/2 scale merc it was totally mind blowing, the man who built it took five years to hand form every bit of the car from misc. steel, old washer machines, fridges etc..the car is powered by a little Toyota engine. Also pictured is my Uncle, Jerry Johnson one of the co founders of the MSRA and the back to the Fifties. Jerry retired from the NSRA a few years back as the managing editor of Street Scene magazine. I'm proud of my Uncle for all his contributions to this hobby!

Is that flathead six with the red air cleaners a 308 Hudson? It looks like one. They were a torquey engine. Walt

Re: MSRA's Back to the Fifties event
I had a great time even though I couldnt bring my car. That lil merc was something, I wondered if he had a 60 degree 8 in it? The hood had the name dwarf on it. Pretty cool.
Yes the rain on saturday was a problem, I got caught in it but found shelter and still was wet but what the heck! Met some neat people and talked cars. Got to meet the guy from the HAMB with the Zephry Woody, really neat in person. In comparison to the NSRA which I have not been a member since 2002, I have to say the MSRA did an outstanding job with the event, as large as it is you can only "Do" so much to make it fun for everyone, but I think the "jag off" level was low as far as I could tell. With 11,000+ cars, and the highest number I saw was 11,125 on one winshield sticker, it was well controlled and those fairgrounds are tremendous. If your like me and like to walk, talk to owners, and look at them all, this is pretty special. This takes me back to the "old days" when most of my mentors from that era were still alive. I also was pleased to see some younger folk there as well. Nice to know that the hobby may have a firm footing for the future. Will be back next year and bring one. Good posting good pictures |

Re: MSRA's Back to the Fifties event
Considering price of gas and the economy, only down 64 cars from last year. Still largest car show in the world, bar none. Rain Saturday did not help gate but Mother Nayire has been very kind to us for about last 6-7 years.
