I use the same T Stats. I think @FlatJack posted about them.

Yes it works with stock hoses. I spoke to him and mentioned this and he said it wouldn’t be a problem

We had an issue when our 39’ was purchased.
One side ran 30/40 deg cooler than the other .
“flathead48” took our thermostats home, soldered on the copper tabs.
Both sides ran same temperature after .

Who wants cheap crap from China the doesn’t work, doesn’t fit when you can have quality from the US that does work ? We all know the problems with off shore garbage and re pop nightmares.. this time it can be done the right way by someone who is invested in the hobby

Totally agree. I can't figure this out. Guys want a solution to some of the common problems we face with these engines. Enter a small, dedicated US-based guy who steps up and provides a solution for those who don't own a TIG welder, and then complain that the solution cost $30 more dollars than a cheap Chinese thermostat?

I don't understand the problem. Every 37 through 41 Ford passenger car in my family has used good quality off the shelf thermostats that sit over the water opening of the head. We use the reproduction upper water hoses with the molded in flared end for the heads that hold the thermostats down. Never had a problem doing that with four different cars. What am I missing?

Me too. That's the question I asked in post # 17. Is it because some aftermarket hoses do not have the flared end?

That is correct. The ones with the flare seem to be hard to find in stock anywhere these days. Carpenter and others are out of stock and have been for months. At least for the '40 Ford style.

Is this what you mean by flared end? I believe these hoses are NOS. They came in a large lot my buddy and I got from an auction. The hoses are solid and look good. Would there any reason not to use them?

Yes, those are the type that no suppliers seem to have in stock currently. The ones that are commonly available at present are the type that are the same diameter from end to end. Or the ones with the stainless/chrome pipes in the middle.

If anyone knows a supplier that has the type pictured in stock currently please share.

Bummer the good hose isn't available.

You can take a short length of smaller diameter radiator hose that is a tight fit into the not flared hose and use that to retain the thermostat. Use a second hose clamp to help keep the inner hose from moving.
