Default 37 ford 4door rear axle

Hi guys

I am pulling the rear axle from a 37 4door sedan parts car. The axle is marked 9/40 which I believe makes it a
4.44. The 37 Ford Book doesn't show this as an option for the 37 cars. Did this come from the factory this way or is it a replacement axle? Is it even a 37 axle? I was wanting to use it in a 37 pickup with hydralic brakes. Any good use for it with out changing ring and pinion gears?

Thanks for all responses
Larry

i think that 4.44 is from a V860 car, you could pull a tree stump out with tat gear ratio

Way to low as is, would be an interesting choice with an overdrive.

The 4:44 is what was behind my 37 60 hp coupe when I got it it was what was needed to get high rpms for the too small engine to pull the weight. I have heard of some using a Columbia with this rear and 60 h.p but it wasn't an expierment I wanted involved in.I went with 3:78 and Columbia behind a 59AB with Merc crank. The 60 h.p went in a motorcycle. Some 60 hp pickups or mayby it was the 4 cylinder ones have even lower gearing.
