Default Vehicle ID Number on trans case, 1941

Can anyone tell me if the vehicle ID number that is on the top of the transmission case of a 1941 Flathead is visible with the transmission still in the car? Maybe by removing the floorboards?
Am I right in assuming that the only ID number on the frame that is visible with the body on is the one on the left front?
I have a '41 Super Deluxe Station Wagon and the number is hard to read (looks like 18 * 6715048) and I want to get it right for registration and insurance.
Thanks

Look near top center of the toeboard part of the removable floorboard section. I think you will find a narrow slot there plugged with a punch-out tab that you can bend up to look through. If it's not too dirty or rusty you can probably see the number and save a lot of trouble fighting the floorboard.

On my 1939 Deluxe, the transmission number is easy to read with the floor boards out of the car... My trans has the vin that is stamped on the frame... Lots of opportunity for the tranny to have been changed between then and now...

Doug, that serial number does in fact correspond to the 1941 90hp Ford V8.
The only place visible on the frame with body on is top front left frame.
Floorboard transmission cover removal will reveal the serial number of the transmission, but should not be assumed that it has not been replaced during the life of the car.

I believe all the metal floorboard cars have the bendable punchout tab to view the number. Removing the '41-8 floor is quite a job, especially if the screws are rusty.
