Default Plastic Seat covers

Where can you find the old type Transparent Plastic Seat Covers that seal the seat material, they looked like they were heat shrunk. (like grandmaw had on her coach) I want to cover the front seat in the 39 Lincoln Zephyr.

Doubt that you will find any that are ready made to fit your application as there used to be.
Most upholstery shops can custom make them as they used to.

I learned to drive in a 58 Belair 4-door pink inside and out with plastic seat covers. Man those things were uncomfortable, you stuck to them when you wore shorts, they got hotter than holy hanna, colder than ice in the winter but hard rights made the girl next to you slide right over to you! Fun! When we sold the car 10 years later I removed them and the seats were brand new underneath though ....

Agreed. All you're doing is preserving the seats for the next owner. Many thanks to the previous owner of my Merc. He rode in discomfort, I ride in luxury.

My Dad had those installed on a brand new 64 Buick Special wagon he bought . They came from Fingerhut. I can still see the box when they arrived. Hated those covers. We went to La cross, Wisc. in July and we stuck to those seats all the way. Also like sitting on a brick! I'll never cover a seat with anything like that, ever!

This subject came up a few weeks ago and no one found any vendors other than having them custom made by an upholstery trim shop from the polished or patterned clear vinyl material that is available. It would likely cost as much or more than if a person purchased an upholtery kit from LeBarron Bonney. If you want to preserve the OEM stuff then you may not have any other recourse than having them made by a trimmer. Sometimes I think it's harder to preserve that old stuff than it is to just restore. As much as I love original historical vehicles, I just don't have the patients to deal with the catch 22 dilemma of preservation Vs restoration. My hat is off to those that do though.

Another option would be to build a new seat assembly and have it trimmed as original and save the historical for the Dearborn awards.

Years ago Fingerhut sold them. I can not remember for sure but they had little squares or something close to that raised up supposedly so you would not sweat and stick to the seat like the plain smooth ones. I believe Dad bought a set in 1963. Slim chance they still sell them, but you never know.

Fingerhut. That brings back memories. That company sold anything imaginable. Kind of like Montgomery Ward.

Mike you are in luck. Fingerhut is still in business, however Bruce is out of luck, there is no seat covers. That is the worst site i ever look for anything on. If you want seat covers you may as well type in airplane tires. It shows you pages of nothing to do with what you want.
