Default Manifold Heater

I saw this photo on another forum. What is that trumpet behind the carb? Some sort of fresh air inlet?

Must have been for really cold climates. The funnel directs air to around the exhaust pipe to add to the air going across the exhaust manifold. I like the removable patch near the distributor which I assume is to gain access to the screw hold the distributor in place.

There is a lot more going on in this photo. What is the funny thing where the sediment bowl would normally be? Also, what is the black object on the port side of the car?

It is a late firewall and indented. That is the fuel shut off. The sediment bowl is supposed to be attached to the carb, but different that the early one.

Sediment bowl is on the carb agree about the electric fuel valve, the black object could be an electric motor for the horn hanging under the hood middle

I got the pic from the HAMB, but can't find the thread now. The black box does connect to the horns.

That little tube behind the carb is for heating the carb in cold climates. I have that same manifold but never used the carb heater. Why they have the funnel and tube I don't know as it won't do anything to heat the car up.

I have driven my A in the winter, and never noticed any thing with the carb other than opening up the fuel mixture till it gets good and warmed up.

What is the cream yellow material between the manifold heater and the firewall door?

Looks like a solenoid valve, is probably energized with the key, to automatically shut the fuel off with the engine.
