What happened to the "new" flat head build?
What happened to the guys who where going to build a new aluminum block flathead? I have not heard a word about it lately.

It's being road tested in a '34 3 window, not yet slated for release. I think a photo of the car was in Street Rodder a couple of months ago but it doesn't matter as you couldn't really see the engine. Mark Kirby who ran Motor City Flatheads is doing the project in conjunction with Shadow Rods.

Re: What happened to the "new" flat head build?
I saw the car at Auburn. I don't want to put words in Mark Kirbys mouth, but I believe he said that they had castings in hand for production and were finishing or had just finished contracts for the production machining by Roush Racing. He was driving the car and fired it up; it revs quickly and sounds strong. At idle it is lopey but smooth ( it has a roller cam in it). I was impressed

That's cool. I wish them the best of luck. Sounds like quite an undertaking.

If I recall correctly, I think they are planning to make an Ardun-only block as well.

Oooh that isn't going to be cheap. But it'd be nice to have a new flathead though.

Yes, Fergason is building the Ardun blocks, I have a picture of a dozen or so blocks in the machine shop. Haven't heard much lately.

Re: What happened to the "new" flat head build?
Some additional features of the Mark Kirby engine , as I recall, wet sleeved block, cast alum. oil pan ( helps stiffen block ), new water pumps, 1.75" int. and 1.6" exh valves, 327 c.i. with 3.5" bore ( the size intended for production ), full filtered lubrication, and I think he said 320 ft-lbs torque and H.P. was 220 or 240. There was more stuff; anyone interested should talk to Mark.
