Default Ceramic coating on headers

I am getting ready to order headers for my F1 from Reds. Can someone help this newbie? Is there any good reason to upgrade to ceramic coating?

Also, if anyone has pictures of their exhaust system I would appreciate it to see where they are placing the clamps and hangers.

Thanks.

I have a set of Red's on my Flathead. They are Jet Hot coated, they look as good today as they did 9 years/3000miles ago.

They will look good and last much longer.

These header have 6k miles and 12 years on them. The coating is Cermachrome which was put on by Performance Coatings Inc in Auburn WA. As the name suggests it is a ceramic coating. These are on my avatar roadster. They look the same today.

The ceramic coating is pricey, but well worth the extra money! un coated tube headers such as Red's without the ceramic coating are just hard to keep looking good.paint just does not seam to last if you drive one.

I had my centre dump headers ceramic coated black 3 years ago and they look the same as when fitted. At the same time I painted the exhaust pipes that attach to them with a $20 spray can and they look just as good. I'm waiting to see which deteriorates first ...

The real question should be; "Is there a good reason NOT to Ceramic coat your headers??"

I'm sure you know that raw headers are NOT going look very good nor hold up very long once they start rusting. Further, basic header paints don't last very long either. So unless you're looking to make a project of taking your headers off, having them sandblasted and applying some type of header paint every other season or so, getting them ceramic coated seems like a no brainer....

On the plus side, beside not having to worry about them again:

-You'll reduce radiated heat and under hood temps
-Reduce any corrosion issues
-improve the look of your ride
-improve engine performance

If you don't ceramic coat them over time your headers will rust and look crappy. It also keeps the heat down in the engine compartment. It's worth it.

Hey CC,
Good advert for business !
Thing is....it is true ! I've had a set of ceramiacoat header on my banger engine about eight years. Only thing that has 'bothered' them...is burned skin form my knuckles, and setting timing vastly wrong on first startup after work on engine. That caused extreme heat and before I caught it, the coating got a 'frosty' look. Someone told me that 'that shit will buff right off'..we'll see !

Some claim a good high heat resistant header paint works and looks good for many years. With the high cost of ceramic coating is that worth considering? If so, what brand of paint? Jon Laing
