Default Additional cooling methods for flatheads

I have a 1941 flathead sedan.it does heat up in town driving when temps outside are high.i am considering installing 6volt auxillary fan to aid the beast .i have found 14" fan . ? This fan will only fit in front of the rad. Behind the grill. So the air will be blowing toward the rad then the engine the same as when the car is driving on the highway and getting wind air. Thank you.

I would check the current draw of the fan to see if the gen will keep up with the fan.Phil

Have you checked or had the timing checked on your dizzy? Could also be a cause for some of heating up in around town driving. Also, if you haven't, may try to flush out the rad. and block. Could be some gunk and scale robbing some cooling effect from that mill.

All else fails, go with your plan.

You will probably need an alternator if you go electric fan. They draw around 15 amps.

I hate electric fans on a flathead. The next thing I hate are aluminum radiators on flatheads. Aluminum radiators and electric fans on flatheads is the last straw.

clean radiator, proper timing, (slow timing) will cause the engine to heat up, more blades on the fan, a full shroud, and up the idling rpms by 200 rpms

Fans mounted in front of the radiator are less efficient than those mounted behind the radiator.

There was a gentleman in New York that advertised on e-bay an aluminum radiator for a 53 ford. It was advertised as a two row with 1" tubes. I wished I had written down his number.
