James Ruppert Extreme Duty waterpump

My James Ruppert Extreme Duty leakless water pump was starting to leak, so I changed it out with one that a club member rebuilt (it was my emergency backup pump). My question is: Are there parts available to rebuild the Ruppert Extreme pump??

James Rupert lives in Bakersfield, CA and was the guru of water pumps for many years. It was the only water pump I would use. He put stainless seal shafts in them, and he had some kind of a perfect seal. The last I got from him was three years ago for my grandson's 30 Tudor. He told me then he was retiring.

Snyder’s has some seals that fit the rear of their “leak less” water pump. Not sure if that is the assembly that you’re looking for but it’s a start. If not you could just replace the entire rear cartridge.

Al, I think I had one of his pumps. It didn't leak until it was completely shot. 11,000 miles. No grease either end, a roll pin in the forward part of the shaft and two?? sealed bearings at the front that were pressed in. The bearings held the fore and aft position of the shaft. The rear cartridge, bearing and seal/s?? were of a different diameter from what the vendors sell. I had seen the website, but it is gone.

Take the seal out and take it and the pump to a bearing supply, and they can measure and find a seal to fit.

Rob Doe, yes the rear of the water pump housing has been modified/extended to accept his longer seal and bearing. I'll take it apart and see if I can find a replacement bearing/seal...........

Mine had a small drip after 29,000 miles, figured it was time to change it before drip turned into a larger leak.

I've not seen one modified for a carbon face seal yet. That type of seal will outlast any type of rubber seal. The carbon face seal will usually outlast the sealed bearings on more modern pumps. It took Ford a while to stop pumping coolant from the hot end, but they finally did in 1937. Moving the cooled liquid made the pumps last a lot longer.

rotorwrench, The Model A water pump is in the wrong place. Sucking water out of the cylinder head was a bad idea and often results in air being sucked past the packing. The sucked air causes foaming and cavitation. Ford corrected their design in 1937. I am working on the design of a new Model A water pump that uses a carbon face seal. The exterior will look like an original Model A water pump to pass blue ribbon judging, but what can't be seen will incorporate a modern carbon face seal.

The water pumps I make for myself have a ceramic seal and sealed ball bearings front and back - not much different from a modern pump. I considered going into production with them but the setup cost and the fact that they would not have been made in America (hence too many Americans wouldn't buy them) made the idea unrealistic. I have just clocked up 105,000 on my first one.

I don’t think people would mind something made in Australia. A lot of people don’t check where the stuff is made anyway. Our FORMER President has all the “patriotic stuff he sells made in China, including American flags.
