Vapor lock...😵www.jalopyjournal.net💫
Hi Ford Friends,
Drove my 50 Merc with a original Holly 885 carb to work today bc my truck is in the shop.. it's about 80° today in eastern Idaho and is vapor looking like crazy.. no flat out dying luckily. I know it's been discussed here a zillion times but im too lazy to search and I'm at work. Any tips or tricks for me? I have the wooden clothespins on the gas line going to the carb. really has never worked for me. TIA, Randy |

Install an electric fuel pump to 'boost" your stock pump.

49Fordy... Crazy you say that, I installed one 15 years ago back at the tank for cold starts. Just a few weeks ago it started leaking so I took it out so I could drive the car. I guess it's time for a new one with a on/off switch. Not a switch you have to hold on only while I'm cranking.. Where do you recommend getting a new 6volt one from and brand?
Old one was from Shoebox Central Thank you! |

Check with Napa Auto Parts. They may have one.

Randy, Before you buy a pump, climb under again and tighten the connections where you took off the old pump. You may very well be sucking air at that point, which would have the exact same symptoms as you described.
