Default Oil pickup tube

Is there a certain clearance for the oil pickup tube to the bottom of the oil pan? I thought I was told there was, like 1/2" or 1/4" but I'm not sure. Right now it is at a little over 3/8". I believe I have the truck oil pan, center sump. Thanks.

3/8" sounds about right.I can barely get my little finger under any of them. I always feel the bottom of the pan looking for particles when changing the oil. Little finger is the only one that will squeeze under some. Others it won't fit. G.M.
