Flathead Ford distributor

I found this in a box of things that I got when I bought my '39 sedan a few years ago.

I've been told this is a 32-36 distributor.

This appears used although it looks to be in decent shape. The distributor shaft does rotate both directions. If you are considering buying this I would plan on it needing to be rebuilt or for use for parts. Comes with everything pictured.

I'd like to get $25 for it plus shipping.

Sorry but its a 34-early 36 dizzy,The points are wrong for the dizzy and possibly the rotor[hard to make it out] Not 37-41. ken ct.

Distributor has been id'd as a '32-'36 model.

I got this from another site member: may need to verify, but this looks like '36 style coil mount.
"Ford used the basic 11A-12127 distributor housing from 32-41, going to the "pancake" style in '42. The difference is mainly in the coil type used, beginning with the "tall" coil in '32 which mounts with two screws, going to the "dome top" sometime in '36 with three screws. Then 2 screw mounting, with the "four rivet" type for '37-'41. Examine the number of coil mounting screws to help determine the model. When the coil type changed, so did the rotor. Many distributor-coil assemblies were swapped over the years, so it isn't unusual to find a "wrong" set."

An experianced rebuilder can straighten this out.Could also have wrong advance weights,wrong advance plate,wrong shaft,you would need all the correct parts to put this back together corectly for the yr. its really a 34 to early36 dizzy.There is also a late 36 dizzy that has a comb. of early and late parts. Dont want to get into this one. ken ct.The one above looks in pretty good shape compared to some ive bought.

Correct me if I am wrong but, I believe if the distributor has a "11A" on the tang he may have a highly desirable distributor combination. To complete the picture it should have the later rotor and the matching distributor plates. Going this route will give you a much faster and greater advance than a stock "40B" without having to change the coil or the basic housing. For settings, you use the standard '41 data. Kind of a "hop-up" on the cheap.

It’s hard to say from the picture. But from the looks of it, I don’t think it is a 32-36 distributor. Even so it is hard to say, I think there could be a slight chance that it is a 32. But one thing is for certain, that it is in a pretty good shape. And it would be better if you could ask a professional about it and may also clarify on the price as well. Also it is a reasonable price.

It is definitly NOT 32 its a 34 to early 36 and the price is fair but would need someone who has all the correct parts to go back to stock for yrs above.If i didn't have so many of them i would buy it and its a pretty clean one at that.OMO ken ct. All the parts that need changing would be replaced with new anyway in a correct rebuilding.As Johnson said also its resonable.

Hi Folks,
That distributor pictured above is a 40B-12127 & was used on Ford Flatheads from 1932 to early '36. The stationary points were screw type. The 78-12127 & 11A-12127 were used on the '37-41 engines. The 11A was originally only 1941 but was mixed in with the 37-41 interchangeably. (faster spark advance curve). I was a parts rebuilder during the big war where we processed about 150 distributors/day plus 100 carburetors (all Ford) in Pittsburgh, PA.
