I have a '37 version... which fits 35/36... generator mounts in the center of the head and won't work with the center water outlet...

Obviously where theres a will theres a way... and its easy enough to make an offset generator bracket... but.... seems I might as well save that for a car with an early 21 stud... (35 coupe maybe )

Does anyone have any photos of any other 39's?
I have the one from the book "Classy Ford V8" but not having much luck finding any other original photos... or even photos of any now that are restored...

I noticed tonight that the carb is a little odd for a 39
obviously its easy enough to swap... and with just under 62,000 miles... it surely could have been changed out...

in any case... its a large logo 97 with a traingular base... return spring on the choke and the S/W setting on the throttle shaft...

Seemed like an odd duck?

The Lincoln OD would allow use of real low rear gears with OD for cruising, potentially a great spread of gears, but I think you will find that whoever laid out the protruding pieces like solenoid on the Lincoln hated Fords...I think there will be a bunch of interference points. This might be a place to go to an invisible modern mod and use one of those Mitchells that replaces the torque tube as your OD.

The more original, you can keep it, the more interesting it will always be.
Have you considered rubbing down that original paint with GIBBS OIL ?

Bruce, I had the same feelings about the Lincoln... just thats its more period correct... but losing the floor shift takes away from it being a '39, along with cutting the frame...so thats likely out... and I don't have a Columbia...probably wont get any overdrive for a while...always something that can be added later...

as for the paint... I was thinking last night about maybe trying to patch the drivers door and fix the gutters without hurting much and seeing how much I could bring it back as-is... I've never tried Gibbs but hear a lot about it....might be worth a try?
just primer the bare metal spots from patching and rub it all with gibbs?

seems a real shame to redo the interior as its pretty decent for its age... so thats making me think twice about redoing the outside...

I wish I had a bit more time to get it going and drive it to Hershey... I know I never saw a 39 delivery in person so it might be something people like to see, esepcially in its original condition like this....

haha... didn't mean that to sound like it does.... I am thrilled with the condition it is in... just half feel like I should restore it... its borderline on leaving it as-is... which I would much rather do... just that the bad areas are really bad...

Happy day, Zach is coming around! If this car was on an EFV8CA Concourse as-is, assuming it can be made drivable with minimum engine work, it would certainly earn it's Rouge award in all three categories, and wouild have dozens of purists swarming over it during the entire meet. It's even a shame you washed it! Just think, all those original cobwebs lost forever, never to be replaced. So sad.
