Help needed on Y Block distributor??
I have a customer needing to convert from the loadamatic ( vac only ) distributor to a mechanical advance style AND his present unit is a spade type drive on the lower end.
What is the first year for the mech advance distributor etc ?????? I have some Y block mallorys but they seem to have the hex oil pump rod drive etc...... |

Re: Help needed on Y Block distributor??
57 is first year for non-loado dist, Spade drive oil pump is '54 only, you need to rebuild the oil pump with a later kit for hex shaft, use a later hex shaft AND most importantly use the drive gear from his current dist on the new one. It's a different tooth count and will only work with a '54 cam. I did this swap on a '54 239 once. Been a few years, but I got a reman dist for '60 pickup from autozone for like $16. Worked like a charm.

Re: Help needed on Y Block distributor??
If your still running the Holley 94 carb you wont have ported vacuum for your vac. advance. It can be modified but requires some drilling to the base. You can always run manifold vacuum to it if thats your choice.

Makes it almost impossible to adjust. Full mechanical is the easier method to work with..... |
