Default Tranny off, how to remove flex plate?

Well got her off and set aside. Everything, even the ring gear is in great shape. I don’t think the tranny has ever been apart from the engine. But how do I get the flex plate off without destroying it? I hit the bolts with an impact gun and it didn’t even budge.

Also, this was at the bottom of the housing. To me, that is rear main oil leakage. Which is the main reason to get the flex plate off. So I can replace if need be.

You have the convertor assy off and are looking at the flex-plate itself? Can you show a photo?

I tried the socket approach and I did was turn the crank. So I tried the impact gun and nothing. Maybe if I tried for a bit longer but I wasn’t seeing any movement at all. I will post a pic tomorrow. I just need it off so I can replace the rear main seal if need be. And I just realized i need to put the flywheel back on so I can use the starter to turn the motor over for my compression check-duh.

You need to prevent the crank from turning, difficult as the ring gear is on the torque convertor on a 57.

Possibly use a bar to prevent the damper from turning.

Depending on the style of the flex-plate, you may want to replace it at this time.

It's time to step in to the garage, take a handful of scrap metal and make a new tool to hold the flex plate while bolted to the bell housing hole.

I've used a box wrench as the holder on flywheels by putting a bolt through each end of the wrench.

Here is the flex plate. An original that has no cracking!
